George Dodd was well known amongst the Fleetwood fishing community having served his time aboard various trawlers. At one stage he took over the running of the town's Knott End ferry service. As owner of the prawner Short Blue he fished the inshore waters of Morecambe Bay. In his seventies he was still trawling with the Spanish fishing fleet.
